Course Objective
This course aims to teach with micro analytical methods of main silicate-forming minerals and calculate and interpret of these data. With these aim, electron microprobe results of silicate minerals (mica, amphibole, pyroxene, spinel, feldspar etc.) will be determined in geochemical and petrological aspects. On the other hand, they will be made and interpret to geothermometer and geobarometer calculations
Course Content
Introduction to mineral geochemistry, description of electron microprobe equipments, Sample preparation for electron microprobe analyses, Processes of electron microprobe analyses, BSE (Back-scattered electron) images and petrological meaning, Crystal chemistry of pyroxene, mica, amphibole, olivine, feldspar, Fe-Ti oxide minerals and calculation of formulas, Evaluation of the electron microprobe data on some selected geological diagrams, calculation of temperature, pressure and oxygene fugasity from geothermobarometer result.
Prerequisites
