Course Objective To teach the basic concepts and principles of molecular ecology. To introduce molecular tools and techniques used in modern ecology research. To give information about the uses of molecular genetic techniques to answer ecological questions.
Course Content Basic concepts and principles, molecular methods used in the diagnosis of plant diseases and determination of genetic diversity, DNA isolation from fungal cultures and direct environmental samples, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and primers, gene sequencing types, DNA database scanning (BLAST), population genetics, general molecular biological methods in ecology, genetic methods in ecology, molecular markers and methods, DNA arrays and methods, experimental design, interpreting genetic data.
