Course Objective To learn the transformation of Turkmen, one of the Turkic dialects of the Oghuz group, into a literary language and the development of Turkmen written literature from the Classical period. To learn the works and literary personality of Mahtumkulu, the great poet of Turkmen literature.
Course Content Turkmen literature from the beginning to the 18th century. The social, political and economic situation of the Turkmens in the 18th century. General characteristics of 18th century Turkmen literature, studies on Mahtumkulu, language and stylistic features of Mahtumkulu's works. The themes of Mahtumkulu's poems. Mahtumkulu's poems. Mahtumkulu and the formation of Turkmen written language.
