Course Objective This course is given in order to teach the basic oncological principles of cancer, the basic concepts of radiation oncology, the importance of radiotherapy in the treatment of cancer using high-energy ionizing radiation, the effects of radiation, the behavior of tumors, and the definition of the methods applied in the treatment of various organ tumors.
Course Content General Principles in Oncology (What is cancer, formation mechanisms, methods used in cancer diagnosis, classification and treatment plan). The place of radiotherapy in cancer treatment (Aims of radiotherapy, decision of radiotherapy in cancer treatment). External radiotherapy (Radiation and energy, measurement units, devices used in radiotherapy, medium and low energy X-ray devices, telecobalt devices, linear accelerators, simulation devices). Brachytherapy (Interstitial, intercavitary, intraluminal brachytherapy, used radioactive sources). The role and responsibility of the technician in treatment. General Principles in Radiotherapy. Important clinical applications (head and neck, thorax, breast, gynecological, testis, prostate, bladder, rectum, stomach, pancreas, childhood tumors) and new modalities in radiotherapy.

1Knows the concept of cancer, recognizes the main principles of treatment selection during cancer treatment, and recognizes the methods used in cancer treatment.
2Knows the concept of radiotherapy and the side effects caused by radiotherapy.
3Knows the ways tumors spread and the symptoms and clinical findings caused by cancer.
4Knows the treatment areas and treatment doses according to the location and stage of cancers.
