2151 English Language Teaching

GENERAL INFORMATION
English Language Teaching department started welcoming students to the MA TEFL program in the 2007-2008 academic year. Students in the MA programme receive both theoretical and practical courses in language teaching in the first year and complete a thesis study in the second year.

Objective
The aim of MA in English Language Teaching programme is to enable English Language instructors to follow new developments in the field of English Language Teaching, to help them gain a critical perspective toward their own professional practices, and also to educate language instructors as researchers.


Admission Requirements
bachelor's degree, acceptable score on centralized graduate entrance exam, placement through local oral/written exam and certificate of English proficiency

Graduation Requirements
A student must complete the required course load (21 PAU credits) with a CGPA of at least 3.00/4.00; present a research seminar and successfully prepare and defend a thesis.

Career Opportunties
Graduates can teach English in State Schools, at tertiary level, in private schools or in language teaching schools. They can also become research assisstants in universities or teacher trainers in various educational institutions.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of previous structured lectures in Turkish Higher Education Institutions, transitions in vertical, horizontal and university are realized within the scope of the "Higher Education Regulations", "REGULATION BETWEEN THE BACHELORS AND GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMS, ON HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRANSITION BETWEEN DOUBLE MAJOR DALL, SIDE DALL AND CREDIT TRANSFER STANDARDS

9Students can conduct evaluation and assessment relevant to the levels and aims in English Language Teaching.
10Students can choose, develop and design course materials appropriate for levels and aims in the field of English Language Teaching.
11Students know about mother tongue and target language acquisition and learning stages/processes and use relevant methods, activities, and materials accordingly.
12Students know about such basic constituents of target language as structure, pronunciation, and discourse. They can use them in relevant contexts and also teach them.

Observation Although we generally get information related to the nature through observations, the Observation method can also be used for other situations and under other conditions. We try to reach certain generalizations by thinking about our findings which we gather from our observations.
Vision Development This technique is not all the students in small groups, but all students participating in a study as a class. It is a discussion technique, used to teach students to respect others views and improve their vision, when thinking about conflicting points of view. Topics with apparent contradictions
