Course Objective The aim of the course is to provide students with knowledge about logical reasoning, its nature and usage areas based on epistemology in mathematics education. With this course, it is aimed that students will have the idea of logical reasoning depending on epistemology, explain the similarities and differences between mathematical thinking and logical reasoning, identify the differences between classical and modern logic, and interpret this point of view within mathematical thinking. Thus, it is aimed to enable them to integrate logical reasoning awareness into mathematics education within different reasoning processes and to develop the idea of mathematical thinking from an epistemological point of view and to put forward educational practices.
Course Content The definition and nature of epistemology and logical reasoning, logical reasoning based on epistemology/not based on epistemology, similarities and differences between mathematical thinking and logical reasoning, types of reasoning, types of mathematical reasoning, basic rules of logic and reasoning relations.
