COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Doctorate Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective To provide the basic knowledge to understand dynamic behavior of Single-Degree-Of-Freedom (SDOF) and Multi-Degree-Of-Freedom (MDOF) systems with or without conventional damping under general dynamic loading, with emphasis on earthquake ground motion. To provide the basic tools to solve simple problems of SDOF and MDOF systems under dynamic loading. To provide the knowledge to fully command tools for analysis of SDOF and MDOF systems using computer methods, with emphasis on available software packages.
Course Content Introduction to structural dynamics, response of SDOF systems, equation of motion, free vibration response undamped and damped of SDOF systems, forced vibration response, solution methods of dynamic problems, earthquake response spectra, free and forced vibration response of MDOF systems, determination of natural frequencies and mode shapes. .
