Course Objective Able to give information about the new calculation methods required for the design of earthquake resistant buildings, to present the problems caused by the force based code methods, to explain the advantages of displacement based calculation approach, to teach current nonlinear methods proposed for the seismic response of buildings.
Course Content Earthquake demand in RC buildings, effect of inelastic member behavior on the structural response of RC buildings, damping in RC buildings, structural parameters that affect the system behavior, seismicity of existing RC buildings. .

1To check existing knowledge presented in current design and practice approaches about the R/C building behavior.
2To give an information about the aims, advantages and the outcomes of nonlinear behavior of R/C buildings.
3To give information about the critical issues that affects the earthquake resistant response of R/C buildings.
4To evaluate and determine the seismic response of R/C buildings by using existing nonlinear assessment methods.
