Course Objective The main objective of this course is to provide graduate students with ground water flow modeling knowledge that can prove valuable in water resources management, environmental impact assessment studies, contaminated site characterizations and design of facilities to remediate contaminated ground water.
Course Content Week 1: Introduction to mathematical modeling and groundwater hydrology  Week 2: Physical and mathematical principles of ground water flow process (1) Week 3: Physical and mathematical principles of ground water flow process (2)  Week 4: Derivation of groundwater flow equations Week 5: Conceptual model design and boundary types Week 6: Finite-difference method and application to groundwater flow problems Week 7: Numerical solutions of steady-state groundwater flow equations (1) Week 8: Numerical solutions of steady-state groundwater flow equations (2) Week 9: Numerical solutions of transient groundwater flow equations Week 10: Mid-term exam  Week 11: Time discretization, explicit, implicit and mixed methods, stability issues  Week 12: Model calibration, sensitivity and error analyses  Week 13: Case study applications using MODFLOW-2005 (1) Week 14: Case study applications using MODFLOW-2005 (2)  Week 15: Case study applications using MODFLOW-2005 (3)
