Course Objective To provide the principles to understand complex behaviour of soils as a natural material under different loading conditions with the aim of applying in design.
Course Content "Soil behaviour and related definitions; Clay minerology; Application of Physico-Chemical principals in clay soils; Soil structure; Stresses and strains in soils, total and effective stresss principles; Rheologic properties of soils; Consolidation theory; Failure criterions; Soil-water relations; Swelling and shrinkage in soils; Stress-strain behaviour of soils; Hvorslev and Henkel’s theories, critical state of soil mechanics; Soil mechanics for unsaturated soils. " .
