Course Objective
To be able to know the mathematical basics and numerical methods necessary for the modeling of the light in the periodical structures of the student and to use them in the solution of computational photonic problems.
Course Content
Basic crystallography, One, two and three dimension periodic systems. Calculation of the photonic band structure. Plane wave expansion method. Point and line defects in photonic crystals. Electromagnetic radiation in a photonic crystal. Maxwell's equations, waveguides and eigenmodes. Finite-difference time domain method, finite-difference frequency domain method, finite element method, Fourier method, contemporary problems in computational photonics. Various applications of photonic crystals.
