Course Objective To give basic pharmacological information about antibiotics and to classify them, to define mechanisms of action at cellular and molecular level; antibiotics (pharmacokinetics, pharmacological effects, use in treatment, side and toxic effects, contraindications, drug-drug and drug-nutrient, drug-disease interactions); discuss new antibiotic drug candidates in development.
Course Content Clinical use of beta-lactam antibiotics, other cell wall synthesis inhibitors, membrane active antibiotics, tetracyclines, macrolides, chloramphenicol, streptogramins and oxazolidinones, aminoglycosides and spectinomycin, sulfonamides, trimethoprim, quinolones, antimycobacterial drugs.
