COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Doctorate Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective The aim of the lecture to understand skills of genetic engineering At the end of this lecture, students are expected to have knowledge of cloning vectors, making cDNA library and the all techniques in gene cloning at PhD level and competence to analyze the knowledge at research area students are also expected to acquire skills to perform advance methods and techniques in genetic engineering .
Course Content Genetic engineering is a laboratory technique used by scientists to change the DNA of living organisms. Molecular biologists have discovered many enzymes which change the structure of DNA in living organisms. Some of these enzymes can cut and join strands of DNA. Using such enzymes, scientists learned to cut specific genes from DNA and to build customized DNA using these genes. In this lecture students will learn the structure of restriction endonucleases, preparation of cDNA library, structures of expression vectors, methods of gene cloning.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Understand fundamental principles of genetic engineering
2Define the structure and function of DNA molecule taht is responsible for inheritance
3Define expression vectors and sytems
4Learn cloning techniques in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and gain practical experience on the cloning techniques
5Learn techniques for gene transfer and gain practical experience in this area
