Course Objective
To understand the essential details of bacterial and viral genome structure, To understand the make-up of microbial genomes, how these are derived from genetic material that has been both vertically and horizontally transmitted, To understand of the basic mechanisms of regulation of bacterial and viral gene expression at the transcriptional and post-transcriptional level, To discuss the advantages and the problems of bacterial and viral system to study the human genome and to provide the scientific background and principles of the methods that are actively applied for the purpose. .
Course Content
Genetic Principles of bacteria, genes, replication, expression and, regulation of bacterial genes gene transfer in bacteria and importance of bacterial genetics in molecular biology. Structure and classification of viruses, virus-cell interactions, human tumor viruses, replication and expression of viral genes, importance of viral genoms in molecular biology. .
