Course Objective To comprehend the relationship between cultural structure and intellectual currents. To be able to analyze influential currents in the Turkish cultural world. To be able to establish the relationship between the idea of modernization and the movements of the Turkish world.
Course Content Concept of idea movement; the birth conditions and causes of an idea movement; the relationship between the philosophical idea movement and the ideological-political movement, pre-Islamic and post-Islamic social-cultural structure; Sufism as a philosophy movement; Medieval Turkish-Islamic philosophy, modernization period in the Anatolian Turkish world; Tanzimat Meşrutiyet and Cumhuriyet; Central Asian Turkish world and Marxism; Westernism, Ottomanism, Turkism and Islamism; Republican era currents, Political Islamism, Nationalism, Left currents, Westernism and Kemalism.

4To have general information about Medieval Turkish-Islamic philosophy.
5The period of modernization in the Anatolian Turkish world; Gains knowledge of Tanzimat constitutional period and Republic period.
6Central Asian Turkish world and Marxism; Gains knowledge of Westernism, Ottomanism, Turkism and Islamism.
