Course Objective From the end of the 18th century until the establishment of the Republic, to examine the adventure of modernization in the Ottoman state in military, political, intellectual, economic, cultural and legal fields.
Course Content The French Revolution and the effects of the revolution on the Ottoman Empire, the articulation of the Ottoman economy to the capitalist world economy, the effects of ideologies such as nationalism, liberalism, secularism and positivism, the tendency of centralization in the Ottoman Empire, The Rescript of Gülhane and Edict of Reform, the birth of New Ottoman Thought, Young Turks, First Constitutional Period, Second Abdulhamid, Second Constitutional Period, and the issues of establishment of the Republic will be discussed.
