Course Objective The aim of this course is to provide a clear information about the philosophy of the Enlightenment.
Course Content The meaning of the concept of Enlightenment, the definitions and interpretations of Enlightenment; Science, Epistemology and Metaphysics in the Enlightenment; Political Theory, Ethical Theory and Religion in the Enlightenment; Aesthetics in the Enlightenment; the British (Scottish) Enlightenment Movement: Locke, F. Hutcheson, Hume, A. Smith, T. Reid; the French Enlightenment Movement: Voltaire, Diderot, D'Alembert, Le Mettrie, Helvetius, D’Holbach, Rousseau, Montesquieu; The German Enlightenment Movement: Wolff, M. Mendelssohn, Lessing and Kant; the relation between Enlightenment and Modernity; the critique of Enlightenment.
