Course Objective In this course, it is aimed to discuss the basic characteristics of qualitative research methods and their potential contributions to the existing research in the field of English Language teaching.
Course Content The course will review the roots of qualitative research, the basic data collection methods used and how the results are used in practice. As the basic characteristics of qualitative research, being sensitive to natural context, the participant role of the researcher, a holistic approach, exploration of perceptions are presented and the possible contributions of research studies bearing these characteristics to the field of English Language Teaching are discussed.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Students will be able to understand the roots of qualitative research, the basic data collection methods used and how the results are used in practice.
2Students will be able to discuss the basic characteristics of qualitative research such as being sensitive to natural context, the participant role of the researcher, a holistic approach, exploration of perceptions and they will be able to discuss the possible contributions of research studies bearing these characteristics to the field of English Language Teaching.
