Course Objective The aim of this lecture is to enable the advanced students to learn the fatigue behaviour of ligth metals.
Course Content Defination of light metal, classification of aluminium and magnesium alloys, fatigue strength of welded and unwelded aluminium joints, fatigue strength of welded and unwelded magnesium joints, determination of allowable stress, Gassner curves, local notch stress concept in aluminium and magnesium alloys, elasto-plastic material behaviour, Ramberg – Osgood law, Coffin – Manson –Basguin law, fatigue crack life prediction and determination of local stress, micro-support concept, substitute structural lengths
