COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective This course aims to teach to significance of the volcanic sequence by focusing to properties of magmas and lavas, types of the volcanic activities, the mechanism of pyroclastic eruptions and volcanic facies concept. On the other hand, detailed investigations based on volcanic rocks textures and petrographical properties will be determined.
Course Content Magmas, magmatic gases and eruption relationship, volcanism and volcano types, formation conditions of volcanoes and tectonic environments, volcanic products and mineralogical-petrological and geochemical characteristics, terrestrial and underwater volcanic activity, pyroclastic rocks and tectonic setting, volcanic structures, examples from Turkey and around the world.
