Course Objective To enable students to fully grasp the basic information and concepts about the identification, quantities, properties, categorization and risk analysis of hazardous wastes, To provide information on principles of hazardous waste management, waste minimization, treatment and disposal of hazardous wastes and technical and management applications for solving the problems of hazardous waste management in the context of sustainability, To improve the students’ knowledge about legal procedures, global and social environmental policies in the field of hazardous waste management.
Course Content Determination and classification of hazardous wastes, sources and generation quantities of hazardous waste, hazardous waste generation factors, risk analysis, regulations on hazardous wastes in Turkey, EU and USA, waste minimization, recycling and recovery of hazardous wastes, treatment of hazardous wastes using physicochemical , biological, and thermal processes. Land storage and disposal of hazardous wastes, site remediation and case studies.
