BIO 568ENVIRONMENTAL BIOMARKERS AND BIOMONITORING3 + 02nd Semester7,5

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective Give ingormation about assessment of environmental cleanup efforts and prevention further degradation of the ecosystem, biomonitoring and biomarkers.
Course Content Monitoring the environment is absolutely essential if we are to identify hazards to human health, to assess environmental cleanup efforts, and to prevent further degradation of the ecosystem. Biomonitors and biomarkers combined with chemical monitoring offer the only approach to making these assessments. Included topics are: inhibition of cholinesterases by pesticides, induction of cytochrome P450s by chemicals such as PAH and PCBs, reproductive problems, aberration of hemoglobin synthesis, use of metallothioneins and stress proteins. .
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Will be able to know the organisms and enzymes used in biomonitoring.
2Will be able to know how the biomarker enzymes are affected by enviromental insults
3Will be able to know the reproduction problems caused by enviromental insults.
4Will be able to know hemoglobin production errors caused by enviromental insults
5Will be able to know usage of Metallotiyonins in the biomonitoring
6Will be able to know usage of stress proteins in the biomonitoring
