Course Objective The aim of the course is to teach renal function and renal contribution to the of physiological homeostasis. -Physiological anatomy of kidney -Main functions of kidney -Operating principles of the kidneys -Voiding mechanism
Course Content Body Fluid compartments, Physiological Anatomy of the Kidney. Renal Blood Flow and Glomerular Filtration Mechanisms. Phsiological Mechanisms of Glomerular Filtration regulation. Renal handling of glomerular filtrate. The ability of the kidneys to concentrate and dilue urine. Countercurrent Theorem. Control of Sodium and Water Excretion: Regulation of Plasma Volume and Plasma Osmolality. Kidney as an endocrine tissue and Renin-Angiotensin Aldosterone System. Regulation of Calcium, Phosphate, Potassium and Magnesium Balance. Renal Acid -Base balance regulation. Urine output and mechanisms of diuretics.
