Course Objective Analysing poverty with its social, economic and historical dimensions, providing a holistic conception about different forms of poverty and poor categories.
Course Content In the context of this lecture, poverty is going to be discussed conceptually and within the context of different approaches, the features of poverty in different social formations such as feudalism and capitalism are going to be handled. Besides the new prospects of poverty, by considering its connection with labour markets in today’s global capitalism conditions are going to be analysed. In this context today’s categories of poor and poverty are going to be handled based on notions such as working poors, women’s poverty, underclass and social exclusion. Finally, solutions based on social policy related with poverty are going to be emphasized.
