Course Objective Basic concepts, classifications of Character and Value Education, To introduce value education approaches and to understand their importance.
Course Content Conceptual framework: Character, personality/personality, value, virtue, morality, temperament. Character development and education; family, environment and school in character development and education. Definition and classification of values. Sources of values and individual, social, cultural, religious, moral basics. Character and value education approaches and applications. Intercultural differentiation and culture of living together in character and value education. Character and value education in terms of educational philosophy and goals. Teaching methods and techniques in character/value education. Crisis of values and education in modern and multicultural societies; value education in the process of human-cultural development. Examples of values education from Turkish education and culture history, Values education practices and researches in Turkey. Teacher as a role model in character and value education.
