COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective A geographical area as the region (s) and place (space) issues in the near term developments, new karamsallaştır be and theoretical discussions to examine these theoretical discussions in the light of Turkey's and other countries' economies regional growth dynamics, understanding the sources of growth, characteristics, growth strategies and reflect on some stylized facts.
Course Content In the first part of the region and the concept of space, the dynamics of regional growth and regional disparities indicators are discussed. This section also global trends in regional (and urban) are dealt with effects on the new geo-economics of global capitalism, and the spatial distribution of industry and urbanization effects on the dynamics are examined. In the second chapter of Evolutionary Economics, Institutional Economics, New Economic Geography, Evolutionary Economic Geography and heterodox schools of economics approach to regional growth and development are discussed. Growth pole model, incubation model, product life cycles, the Porter model, an innovative environment and the network model, the new industrial zone model, the industrial zone theory, advanced technology bölgecik, flexible specialization theory, regional / urban innovation systems and local economic development in this section will be examined. In the third chapter the background of imbalances between the regions and the dynamic transformation of capitalism, the role of urban spaces are discussed. This section also regional / urban development strategies and policies are examined.

1The basic concepts and definitions in the field of regional development is discussed; effect on regional growth processes of social and cultural structures, economic processes, institutions and policies and to explain the impact of the actors in society
2Turkey in light of the recent theoretical discussions, try to understand the dynamics of regional growth
3Region in the background of the imbalance between the urban dynamics of capitalism and examines the role of transforming venues
