COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective To recognize polluting gases arising from the engine. To handle harmful effects of exhaust emissions and to understand the reasons of emissions. To recognize pollutants that are spread to the environment by vehicles, the sources of these pollutants on the vehicles and vehicle technologies reducing these pollutants and to teach environmental sensitivity. To be able to comprehend measurement methods of engine exhaust emissions and measurement procedures.
Course Content The basic concepts of fuels and combustion, combustion types, theoretical complete combustion, incomplete combustion, partial incomplete combustion. Vehicle-borne pollutants and their effects on air pollution. Impact of different working conditions on vehicle emissions. The measures taken against pollution from motor vehicles. Legal restrictions imposed on pollutants and emission measurement techniques.
