COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective Students are expected to explain principles of surgical approach to shock trauma and other environmental emergency, gastrointestinal system diseases, pancreatobilier system diseases, hepathological diseases, acute abdomen, urinary system infections, penis and scrotum diseases; symptoms and findings, mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment principles, and complications of these diseases and apply professional skills.
Course Content Introduction to surgery, shock and trauma, environmental emergency, mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach and duodenum diseases, jejunum, ileum, appendix, colon, rectum, anus diseases, pancreas and gallbladder diseases, hepathological diseases, acute abdomen, urinary system obstruction, penis – scrotum diseases.

1Explains how to approach and resuscitate an emergency patient with trauma, and diagnosis and treatment methods. (Theory)
2Evaluates the organ transplantation process. (Theory)
3Draws blood from service pre-operation patients, prepares for intravenous administration, places catheter and nasogastric, applies dressing to post-operative patients, and sutures in operation. (Skill)
4 Communicates effectively with parents in forensic cases. (Skill)
5 Defines basic principles of first approach to trauma patient. (Theory)
6Explains the diagnosis and treatment principles of head, spinal and thorax and abdomen trauma patients. (Theory)
7 Differentiates trauma related complications. (Theory)
8Lists environmental emergencies; and explains in accordance with diagnosis and treatment principles. (Theory)
9 Explains wound and burn care principles. (Theory)
10 Examines the trauma patient physically and evaluates the radiographies. (Skill)
11 Draws blood, prepares intravenous applications, administers iv/im injection, places foley – nasogastric catheters and applies wound care. (Skill)
12 Applies necessary first aid. (Skill)
13 Gives importance to early intervention of a trauma patient and forensic notice. (Attitude)
14 Explains clinical findings, diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of organic and functional diseases of esophagus, gastrointestinal bleeding and peptic ulcer as well as causes and protection methods. (Theory)
15Takes history of organic and functional diseases of esophagus, gastrointestinal bleeding and peptic ulcer and applies physical examination. (Skill)
16Employs diagnosis and differential diagnosis methods of organic and functional diseases of esophagus, gastrointestinal bleeding and peptic ulcer. (Skill)
17 Directs the patients in need of advanced tests in accordance with the diagnosis. (Skill)
