Course Objective To gain basic concepts about photonics which is a rapidly developing technology with applications in communications, medicine, computing, environmental studies, basic science, and many other fields.
Course Content Basic crystallography, 1D,2D,3D periodic systems. Photonic crystals. Calculation of the photonic band structure. Plane wave expansion method. Point and line defects in photonic crystals. Electromagnetic radiation in a photonic crystal. Various applications of photonic crystals.
