Course Objective To teach the pulse modulation techniques for digital transmission of analog signals, coded pulse modulation methods for digital data transmission and coding techniques. Furthermore, to enable the students for making mathematical analysis of noise-error probability performance in digital communication systems.
Course Content Fundamental concepts in digital communications / Pulse modulation: Sampling theory, Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM), Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) and Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) / Coded pulse modulation: Quantization, Pulse Code Modulation (PCM), Delta modulation (DM), Differential PCM (DPCM), Line codes and time division multiplexing (TDM) / Base-band digital data transmission / Bit error rate in base-band data transmission / Band-pass digital modulation techniques: Amplitude Shift Keying (ASK), Frequency Shift Keying (FSK), Phase Shift Keying (PSK) / Noise analysis in digital communications.
