Course Objective The main objective of the course is to provide the mechanical engineering student with a realistic understanding of the basic friction, wear and lubrication techniques and to develop skills to bearing design. .
Course Content Introduction to tribology, surface characteristics, contact conditions, friction, friction types, wear and types, measurement of friction and wear, lubricant and their composition, hydrodynamic lubrication, hydrostatic lubrication, elastohydrodynamic lubrication, solid lubrication and surface treatments, selection of materials for tribology, design of journal bearing. .
