Course Objective Nowadays many researches are made about the durability of concrete structures, and many experiment methods are improved and also many standards are written and renewed in this field. In the scope of this course, the deterioration processes of the materials those constitute reinforced concrete, the technical knowledge about the remedies for preventing against deterioration of reinforced concrete structures and contents of the standards about the lesson will be given.
Course Content Porous structure and permeability of concrete, Concrete Cracks, Deterioration by physical effects, Deterioration by chemical effects, Biological processes in concrete and efflorescence, Carbonation, Corrosion of Embedded Steel in concrete, Effect of sea water to concrete & reinforced concrete, Classification of environmental exposure; design, construction & maintenance, Measures against specific deterioration mechanisms.
