Course Objective Structural concepts and vocabulary about high rise structures. Dynamic characteristics of high rise structures. Structural design approaches in existing documents.
Course Content High-Rise Structures: Structural concepts, vocabulary, structural systems: gravity and lateral load systems, consideration for seismic and wind forces. Important aspects in design: Vibration, ductility, failure mechanism, and limit state deformations. Codes and Provisions Related to High-Rise Structures Seismic Design: Equivalent lateral force procedure and dynamic procedure (modal analysis) Performance-Based Seismic Engineering: Vocabulary and fundamentals of performance-based seismic engineering from FEMA-273, FEMA 356, ATC-40 and EuroCode 8 etc.
