COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective This course includes basic photography knowledge. To recognize the camera, which is a technological invention, and to comprehend its historical importance, to understand the physical dark box (camera obscura) and optical projection, to learn camera components and working principles, to distinguish between analog and digital recording types. To know the various materials and equipment used in photography and to understand the importance of exposure by learning especially light sensitive materials, to make analog and digital photography applications, to learn the basic shooting techniques and the basic composition principles used in photography, to make black-and-white darkroom applications, to understand the possibilities of digital photography, to introduce the art of photography. It is aimed to know the usage areas of photography and photographers, to understand and evaluate the aesthetics of the image in photography, to be able to criticize photography.
Course Content History of photography, camera mechanism (lens, films, lighting, flash, filters), photographing technique, portrait, landscape, night, close-up photos, artistic shots, composition, dark room, black-and-white and color printing techniques, photography usage areas of art in daily life, manipulation in photography etc. covers topics; In addition, students are provided to associate their work with different disciplines and to understand contemporary art practices; Occupational health and safety measures are ensured in practices to be carried out within the scope of workshops; In addition, it is ensured that students learn about exhibition methods, process, presentation techniques and portfolio preparation, apply this knowledge and comply with ethical rules throughout the process.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1The student who takes this course, (1) explains the development stages of photography and photography in the world and in Türkiye.
2(2) Evaluates the artistic importance of photography.
3(3) Explains the functions of the main components of the camera.
4(4) knows the measurement and control of artificial and natural light to take photos.
5(5) uses visual composition elements and expression elements such as light, space, depth, space, rhythm in photography.
6(6) Uses photography techniques in different categories and subjects such as human, nature, fiction, documentary, advertisement etc.
7(7) Explains dark room techniques theoretically.
8(8) Knows digital photography techniques and makes original experiments on photography with image processing programs.
9(9) Makes photography readings and evaluates his own photographic works in terms of technique and composition.
