COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective Examination of grammatical structure and context relationship in the translation process; this course aims to increase the awareness of teacher candidates about the similarities and differences between the two languages. In addition, it is aimed that students have information about the basic theories and approaches in translation science, the suitability of a translation, critical evaluation by comparing different translations of the same text through error analysis, word choices, the role and importance of translation in language learning, as well as the cultural dimension of translation are emphasized.
Course Content Within the scope of this course, Turkish-English, English-Turkish translations will be made in different text types. The harmony between translation approaches and text types will be emphasized. Along with the basic theories and approaches in translation science; translation of original Turkish texts on different subjects and genres into English; likewise, practice of translating original English texts into Turkish will be made.

Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Uses theoretical and applied knowledge in translation science.
2Also improves language skills while translating original texts in the source language written on different subjects and genres into the target language.
3Evaluates critically by comparing different translations of the same text through error analysis and uses it to develop language skills.
4Acts selectively when translating a piece of text from English to Turkish and from Turkish to English in terms of form and word choice.
5Takes a conscious approach to the role and importance of translation in language learning and the cultural dimension of translation and reflects it on their own learning.
6While translating, s/he uses her knowledge in the context of word syntax to improve his/her language skills.
7Compares two languages ​​in terms of word order in the context of the rules in both languages.
