COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective In this course, the students will examine the new approaches, methods and techniques in the context of various learning theories, learn the concepts and theories related to foreign language teaching and gain awareness about reflecting the theoretical knowledge they have learned to English teaching activities and materials. In this course, it is aimed that students can understand the methods of language teaching, the relationship among techniques, methods and approaches; learn the advantages and disadvantages of different teaching methods and techniques compared to language levels; take into account the contextual differences; gain awareness about the methods and approaches appropriate to the Turkish education system, and provide concrete examples in order to use the related methods and approaches in future teaching experiences.
Course Content Course design in English language teaching, appropriate approaches to different student needs such as English as a second / foreign / international / special purpose / academic language; constructivist approach, content-focused, task-focused, problem-focused, holistic language teaching, multi-intelligence and holistic language approach applications; the importance of teaching culture in second language / foreign language teaching, use of technology in language classes, place of communication in the developing world and intercultural communication

1Students can acquire knowledge regarding teaching languages to students with various needs of languages.
2Students can acquire knowledge of content-oriented, task-oriented, problem-oriented, constructivist and holistic language approaches.
3Students can gain awareness of the place and importance of technology in language teaching.
4Students can understand different kinds of students, teachers, lesson plans and materials.
5Students can compare and make inferences about current language teaching approaches, methods and techniques in the classroom.
6Students can understand the foreign language as a means of communication and use it for communication with classroom applications.
