COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective To read English texts of various genres; to write a paragraph/short text about their emotions, thoughts, suggestions and wishes on a related topic in accordance with the genre conventions; to write a paragraph/short text and give citations/references in line with English academic writing conventions; to use various linguistic structures, words, and discourse markers accurately and appropriately.
Course Content Paragraph types and structure; paragraph analysis; creating a paragraph outline; writing descriptive, compare-contrast, argumentative, narrative paragraphs; summarization, interpretation, short story, film or book review; (in)formal e-mail/letter writing.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Examines the characteristics of various types of English texts (author's purpose, audience, arrangement, content, discourse, language use, structuring the text, supporting ideas, etc.).
2He/she writes his/her feelings, thoughts, criticisms, requests and suggestions about the related subject in paragraph/short text according to various text type features.
3Applies the rules of English academic literature in academic text types.
4Prepares formal and informal electronic correspondence texts for various purposes.
5Uses various methods of supporting ideas (eg, giving examples, giving details and additional information, giving statistics, anecdotes, quotations, etc.).
6Uses citations in APA style in accordance with English academic writing.
7Explains the situations that lead to plagiarism.
8Creates unity and harmony in the text by using various English words and discourse markers correctly and appropriately.
9Provides sentence diversity by using various English language structures correctly and appropriately.
10Applies the rules of English spelling and punctuation.
11Evaluates the features and integrity of the text written by herself and her peers and gives feedback.
12Rearranges the text s/he wrote according to the feedback given in the drafts.
13Expresses his/her views on the subject in class discussions on texts.
14Edits texts using various technology tools.
