COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective Introducing organic chemistry, briefly giving information about organic compounds. To give information about the properties and purification of organic compounds at the beginning, then the structure of the carbon atom, hybridization and atom bonds. The structure, existence and importance of hydrocarbons, structure reactions of alcohols, carbonyl compounds and acids will be explained. It is also aimed to give information about the structure and reactions of aromatic compounds.
Course Content Introduction to organic chemistry, chemical bonds, bond energies, bond lengths, electronegativity and dipoles, hybridization, alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, aromatic compounds, aldehydes and ketones, carboxylic acids and amines molecular structures, nomenclature, properties and reactions, fats, proteins, DNA structure, polymers.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To explain molecular formula, structural formula, isomer, radical concepts together with basic concepts in organic chemistry.
2To expresses organic molecules and writing these molecular formulas.
3To have knowledge about the nomenclature, general properties, synthesis methods and reactions of organic compounds such as alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alkyl halides and aromatic compounds.
4To have knowledge about the nomenclature and general properties of alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, amines and esters.
5To explain the structure of amino acids and polymers.
