COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree
Course Type Compulsory
Course Objective The main purpose of this course is to enable students to develop understanding the science and scientific method; learning the basic concepts and principles of biology; exploring common characteristics of living organisms and distinguishing living things from nonliving things; understanding basic building blocks of organisms and biochemical events occurring in biological systems; understanding diversity and classification of living things; understanding cell structure, type of cells and plant tissues, and organismal biology of higher plants.
Course Content Meaning, fields, importance, historical development of biology; living and nonliving structures; diversity and classification of living things (prokaryotes, eukaryotes, species concept and taxonomic structures, , structure and properties of plants); basic unit of life (cell, cell structure and function, membrane structure and function); cell division (mitosis, meiosis and uncontrolled cell division); plant tissues (meristematic tissue and permanent tissues ); plant organs and structures (vegetative organs, generative organs, reproduction, fertilization and development in flowering and non-flowering plants); an overview of animal diversity (general characteristics of invertebrate animals and vertebrate); and open and closed ended experiments on these topics.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face
