COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of this course is to make students understand the destruction of the Ottoman Empire, the Turkish Independence War, the Treaty of Lausanne, the importance and establishment philosophy of the new Turkish state.
Course Content Internal and external reasons that prepare the collapse of the Ottoman State; Modernization movements in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th Century; The idea currents of the Ottoman Empire in the last period; The political and military situation of the Ottoman State at the beginning of the 20th century; World War I and the Armenian issue; The occupation and reaction of Anatolia; Mustafa Kemal Pasha's exit to Samsun and its activities; congress period and organization; the opening of the last Ottoman Grand National Assembly and the acceptance of the National Pact; Preparation for the National Struggle and the material and spiritual bases of this preparation; Opening and activities of TBMM; Treaty of sevr; The challenges in the South and East fronts; the establishment of regular army, the Greek assault and wars on the western front, the signing of the Mudanya Armistice, the gathering of the Lausanne Conference and the signing of the Lausanne Peace Treaty.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To gain knowledge about the definition of revolution and the reasons that prepared Turkish Revolution
2Gaining the ability to understand the rescue work of the Ottoman Empire
3To have a holistic view of the Tripoli War, first and second Balkan Wars
4To gain the sense of thinking about the First World War and destruction of Ottoman Empire
5Gaining the ability to understand and think about Mondros Armistice and occupation of Izmir
6To be able to look at the as a whole Mustafa Kemal Pasha's departure to Samsun and the power created by the beginning of the National Struggle
7Explain the works of Mustafa Kemal Pasha from Samsun to Ankara
8Analyze the opening of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the structural and philosophical foundations of the new Turkish State
9To obtain information about the uprising against the Turkish Grand National Assembly and do not react against Treaty of Sevres and to think critically this access.
10Obtaining to the knowledge of the fronts of the National Struggle, wars against the Armenian and French occupations on the frontiers of the East and the South Anatolia
11Gaining the ability to reach the knowledge of the War of the National Struggle on the western Anatolia front and the victory of the Great Offensive
12To be evaluation the conclusion of the Turkish-Greek War, the Mudanya Armistice and its political consequences
13To be evaluation the Lausanne Peace Treaty, and recognition from the world of the new Turkish State as a result of this Treaty.
