Course Objective In this course students are Social Studies’ field and features, The main objectives and key skills of the social studies’ field, Literacy in Social Studies, The main themes of Social studies, The importance and history of social studies in primary schools, To examine the Social Studies Curriculum (acquisitions, skills, theme, etc.), The strategies, methods, techniques and materials used in social Studies and Sample implementations related to these, Democracy, human rights and values education in Social Studies, , examples and comparisons from the Social Studies textbooks in Turkey and other countries.
Course Content Social studies and its features The mainalan aims of the field of social studies and basic skills Literacy in Social Studies Main themes and areas in Social Studies Place and history of social studies field in primary school program Examination of social studies program Mid-term exam Approaches to teaching social studies Strategies, methods, techniques and materials used in teaching social studies, sample applications related to them Democracy, human rights and values education in social studies Examples of social studies textbooks in Turkey and in other countries and comparisons Measurement and evaluation techniques Alternative assessment techniques Assessment of student work at the end of the semester

1Define the basic concepts about the course
2Know the basic knowledge and concepts related to the history of the course
3Examining Social Studies lesson curriculum
4Explains the basic philosophy of the social studies lesson teaching program
5Evaluates Social studies lesson teaching program according to program items
6Know teaching approach, strategy, methods and techniques to be used in social studies course
7Learns and applies the planning processes of social studies course
8Design and develop activities to be used in teaching social studies lessons
9Familiarize yourself with the assessment and evaluation of the social studies course
10Provides application examples suitable for the purposes of the course
