COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective This course aims at developing sensitivity to qualities in literature which are meaningful to children through reading, listening to, using and creating books and poems; developing criteria for evaluating children's literature. .
Course Content The Development of Children Literature in the World and in Turkey: In the period Of Childhood, the importance of getting to know qualitative children’s books and the function of works of art in children literature in bringing up the individuals who have the habit of reading, and who are intellectual and sensible. To study on the qualities (design, content and pedagogical) that should be included in the works of art in children literature with examples. To exemplify the children’s books which are poor in quality and to discuss the negative effects of these books on growth of children. Studies aimed at determining of the suitability of the books which are read and studied on by teachercandidates, according to the age groups and to provide contributions of these books to which kind of development of children. To define the contributions of various literary text types (epic, fairy tale, poem, story and novel etc.) which address children and linguistic devices (count out, tongue twister, riddle etc.) to the development of children.
