Course Objective To reveal the importance of antique architecture, its emergence and chronological development. Understanding the urban planning of the ancient cities, focusing on the major architects and analyzing the building materials is one of the main objectives. Knowing the stages in the process from quarrying to using in building the stones used in ancient architecture; in addition, to learn about the arrangement of infrastructures; carrier members such as column and wall, and the superstructures and roofs carried by them, in antiquity; to have an idea about the origins of architectural orders, temple plan types and properties during antiquity.
Course Content All the architectural stages that occur in the formation of an ancient city constitute the content of the course. Ancient sources and architects who talk about these stages will be evaluated within the scope of the course. The sections of religious and public structures, their usage patterns and periodic distinctions will be mentioned. All factors constituting the origin of ancient architecture will be within the scope of the course.
