Course Objective The fact that modern history writing has long been disregarded the non-human agency through shaping the human and non-human interactions has made the classical understanding of history should be challanged. It is an undeniable reality that the humankind has not only been in a relationship with each other, rather the human and non-human species acted together in historical time and space. In other words, human actions occurs in an ecosystem that affects and changes according to time and space. This perspective, that is about providing historical agency to the non-human elements, made the discipline of history could be in a direct relationship with certain other disciplines like geography, biology, jeology, medicine and so and so forth. The aim of this course is to make visible these interactions as well as introducing the emerging perspective within the discipline of history to other disciplines.
Course Content The primary concern of environmental history is about the ecology the humans have been in a direct interaction like water and wetlands, forests, grasses, and animals. Alongside the interaction between human and non-human agency, it also interests in analyzing certain outcomes stemming from reciprocal relations within the long-termed historical processes. It will be stressed the scope of interdisciplinary relationships of history and other disciplines in this perspective.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Knowledge of Environmental History.
2The emergence of environmental history studies and their place in historiography are explained.
3In the context of environmental history studies, human-nature relations are explained. The long-term consequences of this relationship are discussed.
4Emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary dimension of environmental history studies. The relationship between sciences such as history and biology, geography, medicine and geology is explained.
5The scope of environmental history studies is explained with specific examples.
