Course Objective When the Roman Empire divided into two empires as the West and the East, the East Roman Empire came to be called the Byzantine Empire by historians. The course teaches the history and artistic contributions of the East Roman Empire, which ended with the Ottoman conquest of Istanbul.
Course Content History of Byzantium will be explored and monuments as well as objects that a conserver-restorers will meet in practice will be introduced.
