Course Objective Genetic Engineering has important practical applications in today’s life. The genetically engineered organisms are used to produce new and better vaccines, insulin for the treatment of diabetes, growth hormones for the treatment of growth defects, antibiotics and anti-cancer drugs, as well as the production of more efficient and environmentally friendly agricultural systems. In this course, genetic transformation applications will be explained with examples.
Course Content General introduction of transgenic organism, Genetical engineering in plants:transformation methods in plants, Analysis of Transgenic plants, Change the agronomical characters in agriculture, Ecological and environmental risk and benefits, Social and ethical problems. Genetic engineering in animals, transformation methods in animals, Analysis of transgenic animals, What are transgenic animals used for, Ecological and environmental risk and benefits, Social and ethical problems.
