Course Objective The students will obtain an awareness of the environment and different methods in chemistry which can be used to determine, evaluate and limit pollution.
Course Content The atmosphere, Atmospheric pollution and the ozone layer, Nitrous oxides, Hydrocarbons and halocarbons, Photochemical oxidants, Carbon-monoxide, Sulphur oxides, Particles, Emission control, Determination of the quality of the atmosphere, Thermal inversion and greenhouse effects, Analysis of water quality and water standards, Biochemical analysis and control of waste water, Detergents, Heavy metals, Toxic effects of heavy metals, Petrol and environmental pollution, Sea pollution, Pesticides.
