Course Objective The course provides an essential understanding of organic chemistry in terms of the following; - the structures, reactions and mechanisms of alcohols along with the electronic structure, reactivity principles, bond species, nomenclature and mechanisms of unsaturated systems including alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, conjugated linear and cyclical systems.
Course Content Preparation and purification of organic compounds, Atomic structure and chemical bonds, Alkanes and cyclic alkanes, Alkenes; preparation and reactions, Alkynes; preparation and reactions, Aromatic compounds (benzene; structure and reactions), Alcohols; physical properties and specific alcohols, Preparations of primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols, Reactions and identification of alcohols.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
