Course Objective The aim of this course is to introduce the student to the philosophical system of Hegel.
Course Content This course will be devoted to the philosophy of Hegel. In particular, we will study his Phenomenology of Spirit with an eye toward understanding Hegel’s view of a nonskeptical idealism. In defending this view, he argues that selfconsciousness requires intersubjectivity and that it occurs historically. We will also examine his main thesis that fundamental categories that make experience possible are practical rather than theoretical.
