Course Objective To provide information on the democratic developments in the world and in Turkey
Course Content To be analyzed the development of the concept of democracy in the world and Turkey since XVIII. Century.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To be described the concept, the emergence and the types of democracy.
2To teach America and French Revolutions and the effects of them to Ottoman Empire in the XIX. century.
3To teach the revolutions of 1830 and 1848 and the movement of Chartism. To be evaluated the socio-economic status of the Ottoman Empire.
4To be evaluated new world order that emerged after World War I and Wilson's Principles, guidance and protection regimes, and their influence in the Ottoman Empire.
5Turkish War of Independence and the adoption of the principle of national sovereignty.
6The rise of totalitarian regimes in the world (Germany, Italy and the USSR samples) and the democratic developments in the era of Ataturk.
7The years of the Second World War and Turkey. End of the war. Publication of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
8The start of the Cold War after World War II. Influences for Turkey, Turkey's NATO membership and multi-party political life.
9In the world, development of the Cold War and influences for Turkey. Political environment in Turkey.
10The military coup of 1960 and the effects of it . Interruption of democracy in Turkey. The Constitution of 1961.
11The military coup of 1980 and the effects of it . Interruption of democracy in Turkey. The Constitution of 1982.
12The fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. Effects of these on Turkey.
13Events of September 11 and its implications for Turkey.
